One marker per line: TIMECODE,Comment text
Example: 01:00:13:02,Revise shot — too dark
What this generates
A CMX3600 EDL where each marker is a single-frame event. The first event is always your sync point (FFOA or 2pop), clearly labelled so anyone receiving the EDL knows where to align it on the timeline. Subsequent events are your markers in timecode order.
FFOA vs 2pop
FFOA (First Frame of Action) is the first frame of picture. A 2pop is a 1-frame audio tone placed exactly 2 seconds before FFOA, used for sync alignment. Both are valid sync anchors — choose whichever you know. The calculated counterpart is shown as reference.
23.98 and 24 fps
Both 23.98 (23.976) and 24 fps use the same integer frame math for CMX3600 EDLs and are listed together. The FCM header reads NON-DROP FRAME — correct for both. If you need drop-frame (29.97 DF), that format is not supported here.
Importing into your NLE
Any NLE that accepts CMX3600 EDLs can import this file. In DaVinci Resolve: File → Import Timeline → EDL. In Premiere: File → Import. In Avid: File → Import. The markers will appear as timeline markers or cuts depending on the NLE's EDL import settings.
